The university opened in 1930 as the National Institute of Physical Education of Ukraine in Kharkov. Between 1930-1944 was renamed to the National Institute of Physical Education of Ukraine is the leading sports university in Slobozhanshchina, the successor of the traditions of the State Institute of Physical Culture of Ukraine, founded in 1979, before the war in URSR. Since 2001 he became the first state academy of physical culture in Ukraine. Academic degrees and qualifications conferred on the graduates of the Academy: Bachelor, Specialist, Master, Candidate of Science, Doctor of Science. Presently the Academy provides academic training for nearly 2000 students, foreign citizens included: 165 of them take their studies at the Preparatory Department, 115 study at the major faculties of the Academy: and there are 18 post graduate students. Structure of the Academy: The Academy consists of 4 colleges, 5 faculties, 18 departments, the Preparatory Centre for foreign students, the School of Outstanding Sportsmanship, a scientific and research center, the Centre of Computer technologies and information support of the process of physical education and sports. The Academy also provides post graduate courses for its students. Teaching staff: 2 academicians, 35 doctors of sciences, professors, 74 candidates. of sciences, Ph.D., 12 Honored coaches of the USSR and Ukraine, 16 Honored Masters of Sport and Masters of International Sport. The main activities Organization and implementation of the educational process. Improvement of the recruitment mechanism. sports and mass and physical culture and health work. Organization and implementation of research work, including scientific and methodological support for the preparation of national teams of Ukraine and the Kharkov region in Olympic sports. The international cooperation, creating appropriate conditions for students to live in hostels, their full rest and health. Training of highly qualified personnel through postgraduate study, doctoral studies. Monitoring of the employment of graduates. Publishing activity, Organizational and financial activities, aimed at improving the infrastructure of academia.
